New DC Comics Movie Slate Leaves Out Some Big Names
In the aftermath of Justice League, is it possible Warner Bros. is changing gears with their DC film universe plans? The studio held a panel at Brazil’s Comic Con Experience 2017 over the weekend, and showed off several films from their upcoming Slate. However, some major projects were missing from the list.
As reported by Collider’s Steven Weintraub, the reel Warner Bros. showed fans in attendance mentioned Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2, Suicide Squad 2, Batgirl, The Batman, Shazam, Flashpoint, Green Lantern Corps, and Justice League Dark. While that is a huge list of titles, many are wondering about the movies that were omitted.

Among those not mentioned in the panel were standalone films for Cyborg, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, and The Joker. Also not mentioned were the reported Gotham City Sirens or Harley and Joker films, which were previously believed to be in the works.
The movies left out of the reel could certainly still happen at some point. Given that WB has so many DC films in development, it may be wise to hold back on promoting upcoming films until the studio has a better grasp of what they will be.
That said, the inclusion of Justice League Dark is very interesting. In the comics, the group consists of characters like John Constantine, Doctor Mist, Black Orchid, Zatanna, and Swamp Thing, just to name a few. Earlier in the year, an animated feature based on the comic books was released, featuring Matt Ryan reprising his role as Constantine–from both the cancelled NBC series, as well as Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
As recently as May, Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) was reportedly attached to direct. Previously, Guillermo del Toro was going to helm the film.
Naturally, most of the films in DC’s upcoming slate have no announced release dates. However, the next film is Aquaman, which swims onto the big screen on December 21, 2018.
