Facebook is working on a pair of smart speakers that could launch this July

Smart speakers are all the rage these days but currently Google and Amazon are the only tech giants making any headway thanks to their powerful voice-assistants. Apple’s has just started to get their feet wet but if you’ve looked at recent Apple HomePod reviews, Siri still has a long way to go before it compete with the big boys. The problem is that doesn’t leave the consumer with much choice. Enter Facebook.

Facebook’s smart speaker has been rumored since last year and while there was plenty of time for them to scrap the idea, it looks like they’re pushing forth. In fact, two devices — codenamed Fiona and Aloha — could be going head-to-head with the Amazon Echo and Google Home this July.

Similar to the Echo Show, Aloha will reportedly carry a 15-inch touchscreen, while Fiona looks to be a more traditional voice-controlled speaker without an interface (although early rumors said it too could feature a touchscreen display).

So far there haven’t been any leaks cluing us into the speakers’ design, so we’ll have to wait a little longer to see what Facebook has been working on. The big question is if there’s really anyone left holding out on a smart speaker and if Facebook will convince them to finally pull the trigger.
