If you can’t keep up with the revolving door of BlackBerry CEOs, we’ll forgive you. The latest one, John Chen, has offered up a wild deal for existing iPhone users: trade your fruit product for theirs and they’ll give you up to $ 550 bucks. The promo runs from December 1 to February 13.

Here’s how it works.

You can trade in any iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, or iPhone 6 towards the purchase of a new BlackBerry Passport. You’ll automatically get a $ 150 Visa gift card, plus a predetermined value for your phone. On the low end, an iPhone 4s will fetch you an extra $ 90 bucks on top of the gift card ($ 240 total value). On the high side, an iPhone 6 will get you an extra $ 400 ($ 550 total value).

There’s a dedicated page for estimating your trade in value, here.

There are conventional options abound. Give the phone to a relative as a hand-me-down. Trade it in for your upgrade. Sell it.

But maybe you should keep the phone. Especially if it’s an older old iPhone model that wouldn’t fetch much value on the open market. Maybe you should consider an innovative use for the device.

A post at Daily Finance suggested 10 uses for an old iPhone (and frankly, these could work for any phone), but here are a few of the highlights:

In-Car Music Player:

An old iPhone would function well as a glorified iPod in your car as a dedicated music player...

When iPhone 6 was first announced two weeks ago, I wrote “With new camera tech, it’s time to get rid of your point and shoot camera.” After getting mine on Friday, I headed out to Charleston, South Carolina for the weekend to put the new iSight camera to the test. You know, just to make sure I could support my claim. It didn’t disappoint. I tried to get a good mix of various types of lighting and situations. Bright light, no light, and some with plenty of dynamic range.

Most people don’t want to think about taking great pictures; they just want the camera to figure it out and spit out great results. Despite retaining the same 8 MP resolution as previous models, iPhone 6 is the best iPhone camera yet, and these photos should give you an idea what to expect. None of these have been edited;...

Apple’s largest iPhone, the iPhone 6 Plus, has unusual, almost hypnotic powers. I’ve witnessed people who are initially confounded, even repulsed, by the 5.5-inch phablet, hold and play with it for a while and then proclaim this is the iPhone 6 for them. Perhaps that’s why Apple chose to build an iPhone that’s almost too big for a pocket, but, as one woman told me, would fit quite nicely in a clutch.

There are so many similarities between the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, that this review will focus primarily on the key differences, the benefits you get from owning an iPhone 6 Plus and the design and software choices Apple made to maintain usability and, more importantly, “reachability.” Read more…
